Rooting Samsung Verizon Galaxy Note 3 with Root De La Vega

DesignGears and Chainfire, XDA members and developers, managed to launch a working root method for the Verizon variant of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 device with model number SM-N900V.
Root de la Vega is the name of this method and it has been first used on the AT&T Note 3 device. This guide is for Verizon model but you should know that this method will only root your smartphone, as the bootloader remains pretty much locked and this means that you can’t flash any custom kernels, recovery images or any custom ROMs for your device. This will need to wait for the Verizon Galaxy Note 3.
Root de la Vega title of this VZW Note 3 root method is named after Ralph de la Vega, the AT&T Mobility CEO.
Note that for this guide to be completed successfully, you will need to apply a Factory Reset. All data from your system and internal storage will be lost in the process. If you use an external SDcard, then you can unplug it from your smartphone so that you won’t lose any data files stored on it. These steps can be found in the tutorial below.
Before starting the root process, read the preparation guidelines:

• This post works only with Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 model number SM-900V.
• Root de la Vega will flash a modified and pre-rooted stock version of Galaxy Note 3 software.
• It adds only root, bootloader remains unlocked.
• Custom ROMs, kernels, recoveries cannot be flashed for now.
• KNOX flags won’t be triggered which means that the warranty won’t be voided and KNOX values remain set at 0×0.
• Full WIPE is required for this guide to work with your device.
  - it deletes all contents from your device which means that both system and internal partition will be deleted in the process.
• IMPORTANT: Take out the external micro SDcard from your device. If you don’t remove it, then this will get wiped too and the root might not be applied.
• Download and install SAMSUNG USB Drivers for your computer – link here.
  - without these drivers installed your device won’t be recognized by Odin 3.09, that’s the tool we’re going to use in order to flash the rooted firmware.
• Disable Samsung KIES, antivirus applications and other security apps that might interfere with the tools we’re using to root your Note 3 Verizon.
• Enable USB Debugging from Developer Options menu.
• This guide is for advanced users, do not blame us nor the Root de la Vega developers in case you brick your device or lose important files in the process.
• Remember to backup all data that you consider to be important before starting the root process.
• Make sure that your Verizon Note 3 battery has at least 50% power left, so that it won’t switch off during the installation.

How to root Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with Root de la Vega tool:

1. Remove the external SDcard in case you have one installed on your device.
2. Download Root de la Vega 7z archive from here.
3. After the download is complete, use 7-Zip or any other archive file extractor to unzip the files of Root de la Vega.
   - after the files are extracted you will get the following files: Odin3 v3.09 executable, Odin3.ini (this might be hidden, not important), Root_de_la_vega.tar.md5 and Root_de_la_vega.zip.
4. Power off your Galaxy Note 3 Verizon now.
5. Boot the device in Bootloader / Download Mode.
   - it can be done by pressing Volume Down, Home and Power buttons all at the same time.
   - release the buttons when Download Mode appears.
6. Now, launch Odin3 v3.09 executable on your computer.
7. Use the USB data cable and connect your device with your PC.
   - wait for ODIN to say that the device was ‘added!!’, an ID:COM box will be colored blue when that happens.
   - in case the phone is not recognized by ODIN then you should re-install the Samsung USB Drivers or try to plug the phone in a different USB port.
8. Click the ‘AP‘ button in Odin.
9. Next, browse your computer for the ‘Root_de_la_Vega.tar.md5‘ file and load it into Odin.
   - it’s the file extracted in step 3.
   - after you load the root tar md5 file you should wait until Odin completes checking the MD5 info.
   - when the selected file appears displayed next to the AP button you can continue to the next step.
   - don’t edit any other custom Odin settings make sure that Re-Partition option is not enabled.
10. Press the START button and wait until all files are flashed with success.
    - note that the installation might take more than five minutes to complete.
    - don’t press any buttons and don’t unplug the phone from PC.
11. When the Root de la Vega tar.md5 file is flashed with success, the Verizon Galaxy Note 3 will reboot and ODIN displays the PASS icon on your computer.
    - note that the phone will reboot in normal mode now and you should know that this will take several minutes to complete.
12. Close Odin app when the reboot is complete.
13. Go to the folder created in step 3. Extract the contents of the Root_de_la_Vega.zip file.
    - you’ll get a ‘root files’ folder and the root_de_la_vega.sh file.
    - these will need to be copied to your phone’s internal storage.
    -Make sure that your device is connected with your computer.
14. Open the Internal Storage of your Verizon Galaxy Note 3 and then copy both files extracted in step 13 to its root partition.
    - that’s the main menu that appears after you open the Note 3 Verizon contents. Do not create any new folders, simply copy and paste the files on the root partition.
15. After you’ve copied the files, go to your phone and Restart it.
    - wait until the reboot is finished, as this is an important step in the root process.
16. After the phone reboots in normal mode you will have to open again the Verizon Note 3 internal storage. Delete the ‘root files’ folder and root_de_la_vega.sh file, these are the files copied in step 14.
17. Restart the phone once again to complete the tutorial.
    - now the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Verizon boot animation will show a ‘custom unlocked’ icon which is normal to appear, as you’ve changed stuff on your device.

After the reboot is complete, power off the device, unplug the USB cable and then you re-insert your external micro SDcard in your Verizon Galaxy Note 3.
Verify that the root has been applied successfully using the Root Checker Basic app from Google Play Store here. Launch it on your device and verify root access. It should say that the device is rooted, which means that you’ve completed this tutorial successfully.
